In her lecture for the new Inholland research line Societal Impact Design on 1 December, Wina Smeenk explained how creative professionals can make a substantial contribution to tackling social issues. The world is faltering, says Wina, and we will all have to make sure that it tilts in the right direction. We can no longer deny that things have to change, said Wina Smeenk in her lectoral speech ‘The world tilted’, which she delivered on 1 December. Smeenk wants to use design to make the world a better place. Whether it concerns major issues such as dementia, the climate, corona or poverty: the common denominator is quality of life. To achieve that, change is needed, but people find that difficult. As far as Wina is concerned, the key lies in a joint, transdisciplinary approach: an equal collaboration with other disciplines and domains.
