The Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab Amsterdam offers a lab track every semester. This is an elective module in which students from various Bachelor‘s programs at universities (of Applied Sciences) in the Netherlands and abroad can participate for 5 months.
Our (international) students work together across disciplines on complex issues. The students will set to work to design a creative product in the field of tourism or leisure activities in order to transform the Buikslotermeerplein in Amsterdam Noord into a vibrant, attractive and safe place. They receive help from various partners from our learning community: teachers, researchers, network partners, residents and users.
Interdisciplinary co-creation
Society is facing complex issues. Complex issues that require design-oriented, interdisciplinary collaboration. Social issues do not respect the boundaries between technical, financial or creative domains either. Collaboration and co-creation between different disciplines allows students to come up with different solutions than when working only within their own degree programme. In this way, they can develop skills that are indispensable for an interdisciplinary professional field.
Design Thinking
Within the lab we work with Design Thinking in which students work in climbs, where they go through various process steps and literally climb upwards. After each climb, our students present what they have designed to various network partners during the jam session. Feedback from partners is very valuable!
